COLLEGE APPS: WHAT YOU CAN DO NOW
As I was cleaning shelf full of folders and documents, a wave of nostalgia swept over me when I found my folder of some college admissions letters. It feels like it was a while ago, and all the stress that I went through during the application process doesn’t even seem real. I made a ton of mistakes during that time, mostly because I wasn’t organized enough to research what I needed to do, so I thought it would be a good idea to share with you guys some tips for things to do before starting to apply to the universities in fall.
Standardized Tests
Come fall, the last thing you’ll want to think about amidst all the application essays, schoolwork and whatever extracurriculars, would be the SAT’s and ACT’s. Even though it’s not possible to take the tests in the summer, there are lots of prep courses out there that begin right before the school year. I was lucky enough to take courses for both tests, and am happy I did because in the end I had to submit all of my scores to the universities. Princeton Review has a very good curriculum directed at specific strategies for either test. If taking an in-person course is not really an option, be sure to buy one (or more!) of their SAT and ACT Prep Books with Practice Tests early in the summer or spring to use on your own time.

Pick Colleges
College Admissions
There are a few things to think about when picking out your top 5 schools to apply for:
Location
Do you want to live far or close to your parents/hometown? Would you be able to afford the housing fees?
Size
Do you want a more personal feel of a smaller school or the excitement of a big university? Are you an introvert or a extrovert?

Choice of Majors
Does the school have your intended major? Or if you don’t know what you want to study yet, is there a large enough variety for you to pick from?
Cost
The most painful question, what are the annual tuition fees and how much extra money will you need for weekly spending and textbooks?
Extras
Is there a big study abroad program? Does the school offer any scholarships with your entrance? How hard is it to get into? Would you be happy in that school’s environment? (Hint hint: take a tour of the college to answer that question)
